An 8-year-old girl faced a heartbreaking cancer diagnosis after her Covid symptoms took a turn for the worse, leaving her family in shock and seeking support.
Western Sydney: An eight-year-old girl named Monique Fuller is facing a tough battle. She was diagnosed with a rare cancer after her Covid symptoms got worse. Initially, her family thought she just had the virus. But things took a serious turn.
Monique became pale and had trouble seeing. Her mom, Chantelle Quinn, rushed her to the hospital. After some tests, doctors diagnosed her with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) in November.
Chantelle shared her heartbreak, saying, “I felt horrible. I lost it and broke down.” She wishes she could take the pain away from her daughter. Monique is still so young and this is a lot for her to handle.
ALL is a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow. It causes too many immature white blood cells to form. These cells can spread to other organs, which is really scary.
Just three weeks before her hospital visit, Monique tested positive for Covid. Her symptoms worsened quickly, leading to her admission to Westmead Children’s Hospital.
Last year, around 300 people in Australia were diagnosed with ALL. Monique has already started chemotherapy and is preparing for more intense treatments ahead.
Chantelle is worried about the upcoming hospital visits. She mentioned, “We’ve now hit the intense bit where we have to come to the hospital for five days at a time.” Monique will have two chemo sessions a day for a month, and it’s tough to see her like this.
To help the family during this difficult time, a fundraising page has been set up. They really need support as they navigate this challenging journey.
