Oldham: So, you remember Alex Batty, right? He went missing for six long years. Well, the police just gave a big update on his case. They’ve officially closed the investigation.

Alex went missing back in 2017 when he was just 11. His mum and grandad took him on a trip, but things went sideways. They ended up living a nomadic life in Spain and France.

Finally, on December 13, 2023, Alex managed to escape after a fight with his mum. He found his way to a police station near Toulouse. Can you believe it? He was wandering around at 3 am before a delivery driver picked him up.

Now, at 19, Alex is back in Oldham with his grandma, Susan. He’s trying to adjust to life in the UK again. The police said they won’t pursue any criminal charges because Alex and his family don’t want that.

Detective Superintendent Matt Walker mentioned that they’ve looked into everything but found no grounds for prosecution. It’s a relief for Alex and his family to finally close this chapter.

Alex shared that he lived in 15 different places during those years. He remembers them all! They started in a nice village in Spain and moved around a lot. He even made one friend, a Spanish girl, and is planning to visit her this summer.

It’s wild to think about how different his childhood was. He didn’t have much access to the outside world, and he didn’t do social media. Now, he’s just happy to be back home, surrounded by family.
