A man in Anglesey has been jailed for biting off part of a police officer’s ear during a domestic violence arrest, shocking the community.
Dwyran: A man really crossed the line during an arrest. Kevin Jones, 40, bit off part of a police officer’s ear. This happened while officers were responding to a domestic violence call.
When the police arrived, they wanted to talk to Jones. But things escalated quickly. He pinned down PC James Marsden on a sofa. Then, out of nowhere, he bit the officer’s ear. Ouch!
After the bite, PC Marsden felt a sharp pain. The officers had to use Captor spray to subdue Jones. It was a chaotic scene. Once restrained, they discovered the officer was bleeding.
PC Marsden went to the hospital. Doctors found damage to his ear’s skin and cartilage. He had to take time off work, which worried him. He felt bad for his team, especially with Christmas around the corner.
In court, the judge sentenced Jones to over three years in prison. The judge noted that this attack left the police team short-staffed during a busy time.
Detective Constable Leslie Ellis spoke out against the attack. He emphasized that no emergency worker should face violence while doing their job. It’s a serious issue that needs addressing.
Lewis Davies from the North Wales Police Federation also condemned the assault. He stressed that attacks on officers should never be seen as part of the job. They deserve better protection.
