A new BBC documentary explores the chilling trial of a Scots killer and the quest for justice by the victim’s family
Fife: A new BBC documentary is set to air next month. It dives into the case of a Scots killer who murdered a man and dumped his body.
The show, titled Murder Trial: Body in the Warehouse, follows the family of Ean Coutts. They’re seeking justice in this mysterious case.
David Barnes, 33, killed 60-year-old army veteran Ean at his home in Kinglassie back in September 2019. He then transported Ean’s remains in a wheelie bin.
Barnes didn’t stop there. He used Ean’s bank card to steal money and even pretended to be him. It’s a shocking turn of events.
Fast forward to September 27, 2020, when Ean’s remains were found at the Whitehill Industrial Estate. An urban explorer stumbled upon the scene.
Crime Scene Manager DS Scott Roxburgh described it as a sad and neglected area. It’s heartbreaking to think of where Ean was left.
It took three months to identify Ean’s remains. Experts created a facial reconstruction to help with the identification.
The documentary will air over two nights in February. It will showcase the trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, where Ean’s family will be present.
Emma, Ean’s daughter, shared her feelings about their estrangement. She expressed guilt and sadness over the lost chance to reconnect.
Murder Trial aims to give viewers a unique look into the Scottish justice system. Witnesses will share what they saw, adding to the chilling narrative.
The trial is filled with mystery, especially regarding Ean’s death. The defense argues that without key evidence, they can’t prove Barnes is guilty.
Murder Trial: Body in the Warehouse premieres on BBC iPlayer on January 28. It will also air on BBC Scotland on February 11 and 12 at 9 PM.
