Heads up, British travellers! New passport rules in Spain kick in 2025
The system will keep track of your name, travel document type, and even your fingerprints and facial image. While the exact date for this change isn’t set yet, it’s definitely coming in 2025. Until then, you can still get your passport stamped when you arrive and leave.
The Spanish government has specific rules for visitors from outside the EU, including the UK. You might need to show proof that you meet these entry requirements. Besides a valid passport, be ready to show a return ticket, travel insurance, or a hotel booking. If you’re staying with friends or family, an invitation might be needed too.
Also, you should have enough money for your stay. The minimum is about €114 per person per day, which is around £95. If you’re staying for nine days or more, you’ll need at least €1,021 (about £859). Keep in mind, these amounts could change by 2025.
You can show your financial means with cash, a traveller’s check, or a credit card with a bank statement. Just remember, online bank statements won’t cut it. Most tourists won’t be asked for this info, but it’s smart to have it ready. If you can’t show it when asked, you might be turned away.
