Conwy: Tens of thousands of empty plastic water bottles are being collected. This follows a water shortage that affected many residents. The council’s recycling teams are on it, but there’s a catch. You need to use clear bin bags for the bottles.

Last week, a mains burst at Dolgarrog treatment works left about 40,000 people without water. Dŵr Cymru, or Welsh Water, stepped in and handed out thousands of bottles at various stations. It was a tough time for everyone, with taps not running and no way to flush toilets.

Cllr Cheryl Carlisle mentioned at a meeting that picking up all those bottles is a big job for the recycling teams. Cllr Goronwy Edwards, who oversees bins and recycling, said they’re still working with Welsh Water to recover from the crisis.

Conwy County Council is ready to pick up extra bottles that don’t fit in the usual containers. Just make sure they’re in transparent bags. If you have a lot of bottles, squash them down and put the lid back on. You can use the middle box of your trolibocs for regular recycling.

And if you have more bottles, you can leave them in see-through bags on the side. Just don’t use black bags. If you need to recycle even more, you can book a free appointment at the household recycling centers.

For businesses, it’s best to chat with trade waste providers about extra collections. It’s a team effort to keep our community clean!
