A father has been sentenced to life in prison for throwing his baby off a balcony during a heated argument with his fiancée, leading to tragic consequences.
Las Vegas: A shocking incident unfolded when a father, Clarence Martin Jr., threw his two-month-old daughter off a second-floor balcony. This tragic event happened during a fight with his fiancée, Nicole.
After the horrific act, he set their apartment on fire, which sadly killed their dog. Martin, 37, was sentenced to life in prison, but he could be eligible for parole in about 50 years.
Nicole called for help around 3:40 AM, saying Martin had thrown their baby, London. She rushed downstairs only to find her baby unresponsive after a 22-foot fall.
A neighbor tried to perform CPR until the paramedics arrived, but it was too late. The doctors declared London dead at the hospital. Witnesses reported Martin shouting about cheating as he left the apartment.
He also started a fire in the living room, which led to the evacuation of seven other units. The chaos didn’t stop there; Martin led police on a wild chase that ended at the airport.
He was seen trying to hide in a restricted area, wearing a TSA officer’s shirt and a safety vest. Eventually, he was caught while trying to stash items in an airline van.
During his arrest, he was heard yelling about burning things. His fiancée mentioned that he had mental health issues but hadn’t shown alarming behavior until just days before the incident.
Legal documents revealed that Martin had a diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder. His lawyer argued that his mental state worsened after losing his job during the pandemic.
The judge, Carli Kenny, expressed disbelief at the case, calling it the worst she had ever seen. Martin faced multiple serious charges, including child abuse and attempted murder.
