The family of a charity cyclist killed by a drunk driver has won a significant compensation payout, bringing some closure to their tragic loss.
Bridge of Orchy: A tragic story unfolded when a charity cyclist named Tony Parsons was killed by a drunk driver. This happened back in September 2017. Tony was riding for a good cause, covering 100 miles from Tillicoultry to Fort William.
Sadly, he was struck by Alexander McKellar, who was speeding and under the influence. After the accident, McKellar and his brother moved Tony’s body to a remote area and buried him in a peat bog. It was a horrific act.
For over three years, Tony’s family had no idea what happened to him. They launched a civil action after his remains were finally discovered. The police got a tip-off in 2020, leading to the recovery of his body.
In July 2023, the twins faced justice. Alexander was sentenced to 12 years, while Robert got over five years. The family expressed their relief, saying justice was finally served.
They also received a six-figure compensation payout, which will help them move forward. Their lawyer praised their strength during this tough time. It’s a heartbreaking situation, but at least they have some closure now.
