Investigators have handed over evidence to prosecutors after finding 35 bodies at a Hull funeral home, raising serious concerns for affected families.
Hull: A shocking discovery was made at a funeral home. Investigators found 35 bodies and what seemed to be human ashes. Now, they’ve passed the evidence to prosecutors.
This all started last year when police dug up the remains at Legacy Independent Funeral Directors. It took a long, detailed investigation by Humberside Police. Two people were arrested and are currently on bail.
Assistant Chief Constable Thom McLoughlin shared that families of the deceased have been informed about this big development. They’ve reached out to other families who might be affected too.
The investigation has been thorough. Officers have worked carefully with families who are grieving. It’s been a tough time for everyone involved.
McLoughlin thanked the families and the community for their patience. Their support has been crucial in gathering information. The police want to find answers for those who have lost loved ones.
As of now, a man arrested in March and a woman arrested in July are still on conditional bail. The police are committed to keeping the affected families updated as the case progresses.
Many families in Hull and East Yorkshire are left wondering if they have the correct ashes of their loved ones. Some have been told they might have the wrong remains altogether.
Earlier this year, police reached out to 163 families about the ashes. A man, 46, was arrested for several serious charges, including fraud and theft. A 54-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of money laundering.
In April, police received over 2,000 calls on their dedicated line. Many callers were understandably worried about identifying their loved ones’ ashes. Unfortunately, they confirmed that DNA testing on the ashes isn’t possible, which was heartbreaking news for families.
A helpline has been set up for those affected, and they can call 0808 281 1136 for support.
