Edinburgh: Ian Murray recently said he’d meet Donald Trump if he comes to Scotland. He thinks it’s polite to welcome the US President to his mother’s homeland.

However, he won’t be hitting the golf course with Trump. He hasn’t played in years, so that’s off the table. When asked if he’d meet Trump, he said it’s expected if it’s an official visit.

Murray joked about Trump giving him golf lessons, saying he’d have to let him win. He understands why people are concerned about Trump, but he believes it’s important to keep an open mind.

He emphasized that the UK and Scotland value their relationship with America, regardless of who’s in charge. It’s in everyone’s best interest to work together.

David Mundell, a former Tory Scottish Secretary, met Trump during his 2018 visit. Trump didn’t meet then First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, which stirred some controversy.

When Trump arrived at Prestwick Airport, Mundell was there to greet him. Sturgeon later clarified that she hadn’t refused to meet Trump.

John Swinney, the SNP First Minister, has also said he’d meet Trump if he visits. Trump has ties to Scotland, owning golf courses in Aberdeenshire and Turnberry.

Interestingly, Trump’s mother hailed from the Isle of Lewis. Western Isles MP Torcuil Crichton even invited him to visit her home island last month.
