Bala: A hiker had a tough day on Eryri. They found a dog in serious pain on the Aran ridge. The poor pup had a broken leg after a fall.

The summit of Aran Fawddwy is stunning but tricky. It’s the highest mountain in Wales outside northern Eryri. Not many folks hike there, which makes it special.

The hiker tried to help the dog but needed backup. So, they called for help. The Aberdyfi Search & Rescue Team quickly arrived on the scene.

The team said the dog was a champ during the rescue. They splinted her leg and carried her down on a stretcher. Local farmers helped by bringing a quad bike to get her closer to the vet.

This rescue happened on a busy Saturday. Just two days before, the team had helped a lost person near the summit of Aran Fawddwy.

Earlier that week, they also assisted people stuck on a remote road due to icy conditions. A passing driver helped them out before the team arrived.

In 2024, the team had 49 call-outs, with many being for injuries. They spent over 1,500 hours helping people in the mountains.

August was their busiest month, with Saturdays being the most active days. Injuries made up a big chunk of their calls, showing how important their work is.
