NHS Lanarkshire highlights the importance of cervical screening during Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, encouraging eligible women to get tested.
Cervical Cancer Prevention Week runs from January 21-28. If you’re between 25 and 64, you should definitely book your routine smear test. It could save your life!
Celia Briffa-Watt, a public health consultant, explained that the test checks for HPV, which can lead to cervical cancer. It’s quick, taking only about five minutes.
If you’d feel more comfortable with a female nurse, just mention it when you book. You can even chat with the nurse beforehand or bring a friend for support.
Morag Nicholson, another public health expert, added that you’ll get a letter when it’s your turn for a test. Don’t ignore it, even if you feel fine or have had the HPV vaccine.
If you’re overdue, don’t wait for an invitation. Just go ahead and book it! Your health is worth it, and a smear test can help catch issues early.
