North Wales: The region is gearing up for some wild weather. Two “weather bombs” are set to hit the UK soon. The first one is arriving later this week.

The Met Office is warning us about a big change in the weather. A deep Atlantic low is on its way, expected to bring heavy rain starting Thursday.

North Wales and northwest England are likely to see the most rain, with 20-30mm expected over the hills. This storm could bring the strongest winds we’ve seen this year.

Northern Ireland and western Scotland are in for the worst of it. They’ve already issued a yellow warning for winds up to 80mph starting Thursday at midnight.

And guess what? Another storm is predicted for Monday, January 27. It’s all thanks to some extreme temperature changes in North America that are speeding up the jet stream.

Chris Almond from the Met Office explained that as the low develops, it will strengthen rapidly. This is called “explosive cyclogenesis.” It’s a mouthful, but it means we’re in for some serious weather.

The jet stream is moving at 250mph, which is super fast. This is affecting flights in the US, with some arriving way ahead of schedule. But others are struggling against those strong winds.

Expect heavy rain and gales on Friday morning, with some snow possible in the northern areas. The first band of rain will hit Wales on Thursday morning, with more to follow.

Weather models suggest that the stormy conditions could last until February. Snow might fall on the Welsh hills, but not in huge amounts.

Mr. Almond said we should prepare for a very unsettled spell of weather. Winds will pick up Thursday night, with the worst gusts hitting on Friday.

So, keep an eye on the forecast. It looks like we’re in for a wet and windy end to the week!
