A massive fire in Mission Valley, San Diego, has prompted evacuations and emergency responses as crews battle the flames threatening nearby homes.
The fire started near Avenida De Las Tiendas, and some folks have had to evacuate. Firefighters are on the scene, and they even have air support to help tackle the flames.
You can see smoke billowing from the hillside, and evacuation orders are in place for homes close by. The San Diego Fire-Rescue team arrived quickly, just six minutes after the alarm.
Local businesses are shutting down, and everyone is advised to steer clear of the area. The San Diego County has issued an official notice about the fire near Friars Rd and Via de la Moda. They say it’s about 1.5 acres and threatening nearby structures.
An Evacuation Warning means there’s a risk to life or property, so it’s serious. Fire-Rescue shared on X that crews are making good progress on the Friars Fire. They’re asking everyone to avoid Friars Rd., west of 163, and to follow police and fire officials’ orders.
Unfortunately, about 3,000 residents are experiencing power outages since around 12:30 p.m. local time.
