Edinburgh: ScotRail has announced that all train services in Scotland will be canceled tomorrow. This is due to Storm Éowyn, which is expected to hit hard.

The storm is set to arrive on Friday, January 24. ScotRail is advising everyone not to travel, as there won’t be any alternative transport available.

This storm is the first of the year and has triggered a rare red weather alert. The Met Office warns of extreme danger to life starting at 10 am on Friday.

Areas like Central, Tayside & Fife, and the Lothian Borders, including Edinburgh and Glasgow, are under this warning. Winds could reach up to 100 mph, causing flying debris and hazardous driving conditions.

There’s also a chance of power cuts and damage to buildings. Bus, train, ferry services, and flights may face delays or cancellations. A yellow snow warning will kick in at 6 am for parts of Scotland.

Once the storm passes, Network Rail will need to check safety before trains can run again. First Minister John Swinney has also advised against any travel on Friday.

He emphasized the storm’s potential impacts, including danger to life and property damage. Police Scotland will issue a formal travel advisory soon.

Schools in 12 local authorities will be closed, including areas like North and South Lanarkshire and Glasgow. Clackmannanshire Council is still deciding on school closures.

Ferry services are also affected, with CalMac warning of disruptions. Northlink Ferries has changed sailing times and may cancel Saturday services.

Mark Ilderton from ScotRail stated that safety is their top priority. They will keep everyone updated on travel advice through their website and social media.
