Lanarkshire: A businessman named Walter Buchanan is in serious trouble. He’s facing life in prison for killing his wife, Darrel, who was 29 years younger than him. This all went down at their fancy flat near Hamilton racecourse back in February.

Buchanan, 66, choked Darrel, 37, after she accused him of cheating. He denied the murder, but the jury didn’t buy it. They found him guilty after a trial in Glasgow.

Now, he’s waiting to hear how long he’ll be locked up. He was out on bail but is now in custody. The couple met in Thailand in 2015 and tied the knot two years later.

During the trial, it came out that Buchanan was “besotted” with Darrel. But things weren’t all rosy. The night before the incident, he was out with friends, and Darrel was unhappy, feeling he was happier with others.

Buchanan claimed she lunged at him, and in the struggle, he ended up choking her. He even admitted to pushing her down. After the incident, he called emergency services, saying he found her “cold to the touch.”

Sadly, paramedics couldn’t save her. The court heard she had serious injuries, including a neck compression and a brain injury. After the verdict, the judge expressed how tragic the situation was, emphasizing the loss for Darrel’s family.

Detective Sergeant Ian Evans spoke about the impact on Darrel’s family, saying they are devastated. He urged anyone facing domestic abuse to reach out for help. It’s a tough time for everyone involved.
