A 19-year-old in Scotland assembled a dangerous gun with a 3D printer, leading to serious legal consequences after police discovered it at his home.
Police found the homemade weapon during a search in May 2023. They also discovered ammunition that could be fired from the gun, known as an FGC-9. Maris pleaded guilty to four firearms charges and was sentenced to 300 hours of unpaid work. He’ll also be under supervision for three years.
The court learned that police found various parts of the gun in his room. These included the trigger, magazine, and grip, all ordered online. His parents had even gifted him the 3D printer for Christmas in 2021. Maris admitted he was fascinated by firearms and bought the parts using his laptop.
After the sentencing, the Crown Office shared images of the gun and a cabinet filled with ammunition. Moira Orr from the Crown Office said this case should warn others about the dangers of making 3D-printed firearms. They’re serious about cracking down on this kind of crime and will work with police to catch those involved.
