North Wales: Storm Éowyn is on its way, and it’s no joke. Winds could hit 80mph, and the region is bracing for some serious weather. This storm is just the first of two “weather bombs” expected to hit the UK soon.
The Met Office is sounding the alarm about a big change in our weather. A deep Atlantic low is set to roll in on Thursday, bringing heavy rain as it moves across the country.
North Wales and northwest England are in for the worst of it. They’re predicting 20-30mm of rain over the hills. The forecasters are even talking about “explosive cyclogenesis,” which is just a fancy way of saying “weather bomb.” It could bring the strongest winds we’ve seen all year.
Weather maps are showing gusts of up to 70mph on the Anglesey coast by midnight Thursday. The winds will pick up throughout the day and continue into Friday morning, along with heavy rain.
The Met Office has issued a yellow alert for western Scotland, parts of northwest England, and Northern Ireland. This alert kicks in at midnight Thursday and lasts until midday Saturday.
