A Glasgow student wins a competition to be the first Scottish voice on Ring doorbells, showcasing her accent in a fun and unique way.
Glasgow: A student named Azkah Sardar just made history! She’s the first person with a Scottish accent to be featured on a Ring doorbell. How cool is that?
Azkah, who’s 23, stood out among 300 hopefuls at auditions in Glasgow. She went to Silverburn shopping centre and wowed the judges. They had auditions in other cities too, like Aberdeen and Edinburgh, plus online entries through social media.
Now, her Scottish accent Quick Reply is available for download. She even recorded a special Scots language message for Burns Night. Azkah said it means a lot to her to be chosen. She thought it was a unique idea and wanted to give it a shot.
She believes Scotland has so much to offer and deserves more representation. It’s great that Ring is taking steps to include regional accents in their tech. Not many big brands do that!
Scottish radio DJ Edith Bowman was one of the judges. She praised Azkah, saying they wanted someone with energy and personality, and that’s exactly what they got. The Glasgow accent is beautiful, and they hope to hear it on doorbells all over the UK.
When someone rings the doorbell, visitors will hear Azkah’s pre-selected greeting. It’s like an answering machine! To celebrate, she also voiced a fun Scots language Quick Reply.
It goes, “We’re no in the noo, but haud on! Afore ye go it’d be pure dead brilliant if you’d leave a wee message. Haste ye back!”
Ring found that many people love the Scottish accent. A whopping 78% of Scots feel proud of how welcoming it sounds. Dave Ward from Ring said Azkah’s voice captures the warmth and friendliness of Scottish accents perfectly.
It’s exciting to see regional dialects celebrated like this. Azkah’s achievement is a big win for Scotland!
