Glasgow: A top cop is sounding the alarm about fan violence. David Kennedy, who leads the Scottish Police Federation, is pushing for new powers. He believes police should be able to stop and search football ultras. This is crucial to keep weapons out of the hands of hooligans.

His call comes after a shocking incident. A disabled Rangers fan was attacked with a hammer by rival supporters. It left him with serious injuries. Kennedy is worried that someone could walk around with a hammer, ready to cause harm.

He insists that using section 60 powers to search fans is necessary. More police on the streets is also vital. He noted a rise in football violence, reminiscent of the gang issues from the Eighties. Without enough officers, trouble is bound to happen.

Kennedy advises fans to travel in groups. If you’re going alone, don’t show your team colors until you’re at the game. The situation is serious, and these aren’t just regular fans; they’re looking for trouble.

Many Scottish clubs now have “ultras” groups. These young fans, often dressed in black, lead chants and songs. But lately, some of these groups have been involved in violence. Just recently, a man named Kurt Davidson was attacked in a McDonald’s. He was hit with a hammer that had a nail in it.

Kurt, 54, ended up in the hospital with 20 stitches. He was also hurt by a knife during the attack. He described the scene as terrifying, with about 20 attackers dressed in black. One moment he was excited for the game, and the next, he was in intensive care.

They even stole his money, leaving him with just his bus pass. This incident followed clashes between Celtic and Rangers ultras in Glasgow. The First Minister condemned the violence, calling it “completely unacceptable.”
