Wrexham: A quirky pop-up site called “Pothole Land” is closing soon. It opened in a beautiful valley to highlight the poor state of local roads.

In just ten days, it attracted lots of visitors and even some influencers. The idea was to showcase the deep potholes that locals felt were ignored by the council.

People were promised two kilometers of potholes, the biggest in Wales, with hardly any road left. Recently, the council started filling in these massive holes, which some said were big enough for a sheep to fit inside.

The attraction will close today while the last potholes are filled. By the end of the week, it will be officially shut down. Russell Kirk, one of the creators, said they wanted to raise awareness about the pothole problem.

He mentioned that while the council is fixing the roads, they’ve received lots of positive feedback about their campaign. Many people have been driving to the valley just to see the potholes for themselves.

When news broke about the closure, some visitors expressed relief for having visited in time. One woman joked that it was easier to walk than drive through the potholes.

Local businesses have also benefited. The Swan Inn received calls from walkers looking for directions to Pothole Land, and they planned to stop by for a drink too.

Two banners marked the pothole-filled road, and a sign welcomed visitors. The attraction was created due to frustrations over rising car repair costs.

Now that it’s closing, some locals wish to keep the idea alive. They suggested creating a Pothole Land road trip around the county.

Russell realized their campaign was effective when he saw a repair truck arrive while being interviewed on the radio. He laughed at the irony of it all.

The potholes were so deep that even the garbage trucks hesitated to come. Russell hopes to work with the council to keep the issue in the spotlight, even though they face financial challenges.

Wrexham’s council leader acknowledged the funding issues but welcomed new support from the Welsh Government for road repairs.
