Traffic Wales is alerting drivers about potential A55 bridge closures due to an incoming storm. Stay tuned for updates on the situation.
North Wales: Traffic Wales is sounding the alarm about the A55 bridge. They’re warning that it might close soon because of Storm Eowyn. The Met Office has issued several weather warnings as the storm heads our way.
Coastal areas in North Wales, Ireland, and northwest England are bracing for impact. Some forecasts predict gusts up to 105 mph on the Isle of Man. Even inland parts of Wales could see winds hitting 75 mph or more.
Right now, there’s an amber warning in effect. It might even get upgraded to a red warning soon. This could lead to serious damage, similar to what we saw with Storm Darragh last December.
The Met Office expects peak gusts of 60-70 mph inland, with even stronger winds along the coast. Lesser wind alerts are also in place across the rest of the UK.
Traffic Wales has issued a “Pre-Warning” to help drivers prepare. They’re saying the A55 over the Britannia Bridge could close on Friday from 9 am to 6 pm.
But keep in mind, this isn’t set in stone. The timing and extent of any closures will depend on how the storm develops. High-sided vehicles will likely face restrictions too.
Traffic Wales mentioned, “We’re expecting high winds on Friday. This may lead to restrictions or a potential closure of the A55.” They’ll keep us updated as things change.
Last time, during Storm Darragh, the bridge was closed for hours, and traffic was rerouted to the Menai Suspension Bridge. The A5/A483 viaducts also shut down.
