Edinburgh: Twin brothers George and Kevin McNab are celebrating a big milestone. They’ve worked together for 40 years at Fettes College. Can you believe it?

They started their groundskeeping jobs back in 1985 when they were just 16. Their dad, George Sr., worked at the college too. He told them about the openings, and they both applied.

Kevin is now the Head of Grounds, while George is the Deputy Head. They never thought they’d stay in this job for so long, but they’re happy they did. It’s a momentous occasion for them.

George shared that their dad worked at Fettes for 29 years. He said, “This was my first job right out of school.” They both got hired on January 7, 1985, and the rest is history.

They’ve had their share of ups and downs, but their bond has only grown stronger. They joke about having minor disagreements, but they always manage to work things out.

Over the years, they’ve seen a lot of changes, from promotions to new technology. George even met his wife while working there! How cool is that?

George said, “Twins have a special bond, but working together has made it even stronger.” They rely on each other and their team to get the job done.

He reminisced about his first day, struggling with a dry line marker. Now, they use a robot marker named Lionel Pitchie, which makes things so much easier.

They love their grounds team and consider their coworkers friends. George’s favorite memory? Meeting his wife at the dining hall skip. They got married in Fettes Chapel in 1992.

Kevin feels proud to be Head of Grounds. He appreciates the trust Fettes has in him. He said, “One of the best things about the job is working with George.”

After 40 years, they still enjoy their work and hope to stay for another decade. Kevin said, “Working outside keeps you fit. We never thought we’d be here this long!”

George added, “With good health, I could have another 10 years here. I might even still be playing staff football!”

They take pride in maintaining the grounds. They’ve received praise for the condition of the fields and pitches from everyone at Fettes.

George described Fettes as an oasis in the city. He loves the peaceful walks on sunny days, feeling like he’s in another world.

They’re grateful for the friendships and experiences they’ve had. They encourage new staff to enjoy their time at Fettes and to stick around if they like it.

Joss Kay, the Estates Maintenance Manager, praised them for their hard work. He said they always go the extra mile for the Fettes community.

It’s clear that George and Kevin’s journey is one of dedication and friendship. Here’s to many more years of success for these two amazing brothers!
